Sea Eagle Boats is a New York-based, family-owned company that’s been producing high-quality, inflatable boats since 1968 and you don’t have to look any further than their Explorer kayaks for proof of their expertise in the inflatable boat industry. These rugged, wet or dry kayaks are ingeniously built to fully transition from a whitewater kayak to a flatwater kayak.
Sea Eagle Explorer kayaks have a removable skeg that can be slipped in place for improved tracking on flatwater or removed for whitewater performance, and 16 super-fast, self-bailing drain valves can be opened to drain the waves and spray from rapids or closed for a dry and comfortable paddle on flatwater.
The Sea Eagle Explorer series of inflatable kayaks can be used for flatwater touring, whitewater, ocean surf, exploring, fishing, camping, and more. Its versatility makes it the perfect choice for all-around kayaking.

Sea Eagle Explorer Inflatable Kayaks Are Best Used For:
Not just one but all Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks including the 350fx Fishing Explorer are suited for…
- Ocean
- Whitewater Rivers
- Fishing
- Bays
- Lakes
- Flatwater Rivers
- Camping
Key Features of All Sea Eagle Explorer Inflatable Kayaks
The following key features of Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks set them apart from the competition and deserve closer attention. All kayaks in the Explorer series benefit from the following key features.
Electronically Welded Seams
Electronically welded seams permanently bond without the need for toxic glues that can degrade over time and from sun exposure. This advanced construction technology provides superior durability, strength, and performance.
3 Air Chambers
Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks have three inflation chambers for durability and safety. In the unlikelihood of a leak, only one chamber would be compromised leaving the remaining chambers to keep you afloat.
Deluxe One-Way Air Valves
Sea Eagle uses Halkey-Roberts one-way inflation valves (HR valves) for the chambers of the kayak and Deluxe Boston-style valves for the inflatable kayak seats.
These superior air valves reduce the chance of leaking and improve the inflation time. Being one-way, the air doesn’t leak out while inflating.
Modular, Rigid, Drop-Stitch Floor Provides Double Protection and Stability
Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks have a two-part modular design where an extremely rigid, high-pressure, Drop-Stitch floor tucks into an outer floor with reinforced fabric for a double layer of protection to bounce off rocks, logs, and other debris and leave the kayak unscathed.
The high-pressure, Drop-Stitch floor provides responsiveness not found in other inflatable kayak brands by joining two layers of poly-based fabric with tens of thousands of fine polyester threads. This forms a base to which an air-tight coating is applied. The result after inflation is a flat, super-rigid surface that greatly improves the performance and stability of the inflatable kayak.
A bonus of the modular design is that it makes for easy cleaning of every interior crevice of the kayak when removed.
16 Rapid, Self-Bailing, Easy-To-Open & Shut Drain Valves
Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks have a super-fast, self-bailing system consisting of 16 easy-to-open and shut drain valves. While on the water keep the valves open to drain out water as quickly as it enters. Perfect for whitewater. When on flatwater, keep them closed for a dry paddling experience.
Large, Removable, Rear, Center Skeg
Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks have a large, removable, rear, center skeg. Installation can take place whether the kayak is inflated or deflated just slide the skeg into the track on the bottom of the kayak and lock it in place.
Install the skeg for improved tracking and maximizing paddling efficiency on flatwater. This will reduce the annoying left and right rotation that so many inflatable kayaks have when you paddle.
Remove the skeg for ease of storage along with whitewater or shallow water kayaking. You don’t tear up the skeg on rocks or the water bottom.
Weight Capacity
Being inflatable, Explorer kayaks offer a high weight capacity often exceeding the weight capacity of similar size hardshell kayaks. Whether you’re in a 1-person, 2-person, or 3-person model, you’ll be able to bring along extra gear.
Cargo Space
There’s no cargo hole, so you’ll have to protect gear under the bow and stern spray skirts or use dry bags. I recommend opting for dry bags to assure your gear stays dry.
There are also bungee cords on the spray skirts of all but the 350fx Fishing Explorer and all models have D-rings for securing gear.
Transport, Travel, Storage, and Security
The Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks easily deflate, fold up, and pack away into an included carry bag making the Explorer kayak convenient to transport and store.
Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks:
- Are relatively light.
- Don’t take up a lot of space.
- Easily fit into the trunk of a car.
- Don’t require expensive roof racks or other modifications to your car.
- Don’t require a trailer.
- Store easily till the next use.
Whether you have a 1-person, 2-person, or 3-person kayak, if you ever want to travel, inflatable kayaks are the way to go. The Explorer kayak can easily be checked with baggage on a plane, train, or ship. Not so with a hardshell kayak.
Want to take a road trip with your kayak? A hardshell kayak typically has to fit on top of your vehicle or on a trailer which cuts down on fuel efficiency and attracts theft. Inflatable kayaks not only stow inside your car, but you can also take them into your hotel, tent, or wherever.
Many people don’t have a great place to store a hardshell kayak. I lived in a condo where I had to walk my hardshell kayak through the security doors and down the halls to my condo where I stored it in my dining room. No need for this inconvenience with an inflatable kayak. It can be deflated and stored away in a closet.

* Sea Eagle promotes the 380x Explorer as a 3-person kayak. It is more suitable as a 2-person kayak. See the summary below.
Sea Eagle 300x Explorer Inflatable Kayak
The Sea Eagle 300x Explorer is the smallest in the Explorer series and the perfect choice for solo kayakers who want the versatility of being able to kayak whitewater and flatwater.
Smaller kayaks offer increased maneuverability and control on the water which helps tremendously in whitewater. Being smaller and lighter than the other Explorer kayaks, it easier to carry.
The 300x Explorer has a lot of advantages but if you’re planning on taking a lot of gear for a camping expedition, you could get cramped. I have long legs and would not want to put a lot of gear on the floor of the kayak in front of me. There is, however, a generous amount of room behind the seat. Way more cargo room than I need for a typical day on the river.
Sea Eagle 350fx Fishing Explorer Inflatable Kayak
Fishing!
The Sea Eagle 350fx Fishing Explorer inflatable kayak is a super-rugged version of the Explorer Series designed with the avid fisherman in mind. This kayak is constructed with 2000 Denier reinforced protective layers, electronically welded seams, and a double floor system, the hull is nearly indestructible.
Perfect for flatwater fishing yet designed for up to Class IV whitewater, the 350fx Fishing Explorer will get you to that perfect fishing spot. Paddle from a put-in to your favorite spot or carry it deflated in the Sea Eagle All-Purpose Backpack to remote fishing spots you could only dream of reaching in a hardshell kayak.
Whether you want to sit higher, lower, or stand, different packages are available.
The 350fx Fishing Explorer has additional features not found in the other Explorer kayaks:
- Durable reinforced sections
- EVA foam padded non-slip floor adds extra comfort and secure footing for those who choose to stand up to fish
- Customized front & rear spray skirts with holders for your tools, hooks, and lures
- Fully adjustable foot brace
- Built-in 40″ fish ruler
- Right & left side anchor trolley attachment D-rings
Sea Eagle 380x Explorer Inflatable Kayak
At 12 foot 6 inches, the Sea Eagle 380x Explorer is the medium-size model in the Explorer series. This kayak is perfect for solo or tandem kayakers desiring versatility in adventures. Its rugged build tackles whitewater, flatwater, and almost everything in-between including fishing, sailing, and rowing.
Sea Eagle promotes this kayak as a 3-person inflatable kayak. I don’t find this the case. There isn’t room for a third seat. Maybe a small child or dog could fit in the front but not another adult.
It’s perfect as a 1-person kayak or a 2-person kayak with plenty of room for gear if you’re into extended trips and kayak camping.
Sea Eagle 420x Explorer Inflatable Kayak
If you’re looking for an extremely stable 2-person or 3-person inflatable kayak, the Sea Eagle 420x Explorer inflatable kayak is the best family kayak for versatility in adventures. The rugged design masters whitewater, flatwater, and almost everything in-between including fishing, sailing, and rowing.
A longer vessel is the way to go if you want more legroom, extra space for gear, a 3-person kayak, and room for the family dog.

Electric Motors for the Sea Eagle Explorer Inflatable Kayaks
Electric motors are a huge plus on fishing boats. Kayaks are no exception.
In order to mount an electric motor to a Fishing Explorer inflatable kayak, you’ll need a Sea Eagle motor mount (Item Number: MMKAYAK).
Once you have your motor mount installed, it’s easy to attach one of three recommended electric motors available at Sea Eagle:
- Watersnake Venom SX 34lb Thrust Electric Motor for Fresh and Saltwater
- Watersnake Asp T24 Electric Motor for Fresh and Saltwater
- Minn Kota Endura 30 for Freshwater
Necessary Accessories
Personal Flotation Device (PFD): Always carry a United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved PFD on your kayaking trips. Children 12 and under should always wear a PFD. PFDs are necessary for boating safety and are required by law on government waters.
Dry Bags: There are no watertight storage areas in the Sea Eagle 350fx Fishing Explorer. You can compensate by using dry bags to keep gear safe and dry.
Popular Accessories for the Sea Eagle Sea Eagle Explorer Kayaks
There are a lot of great accessories that can be added to the 350fx Fishing Explorer. Here are some popular ones you might consider.
Minn Kota Trolling Motor Power Center
If you plan to use an electric motor with your Sea Eagle Explorer, I’d recommend the Minn Kota Trolling Motor Power Center. The Power Center fits 24 and 27-size batteries and allows easy access to external battery terminals without the need to open the box to access the battery directly.
The Power Center includes:
- LED battery meter display
- Two 12-volt cigarette lighter-style plugs for accessories
- Two manual reset circuit breakers. A 15 amp for the accessory plugs and a 60 amp for the trolling motor.
Dry Bag
There’s always something we want to keep dry secure and off the bottom of the lake or river. Dry bags are the answer for keeping your wallet, lunch, clothes, medications, and more safe and dry while out on the water.
I have Sea to Summit Big River Dry Bags though there are many reputable brands to pick from at outfitters like OutdoorPlay, Backcountry, and even Amazon.
Push Pole
A push pole like this SuperStick KVD Telescopic Push Pole is great for pushing your boat in shallow areas that your trolling motor cannot handle and with extra attachments, the pole can be transformed into a paddle, landing net, gig, boat hook, and much more.
Scotty Accessories
Scotty accessories are incredibly popular. Fishing rod holders, cup holders, Go Pro mounts, mounts for fish finders, and more… Scotty has you covered. Just attach your desired accessory to one of the two Universal Scotty Mounting Pads.
If Sea Eagle Boats doesn’t carry the Scotty accessory you’re looking for, OutdoorPlay will.
Fish Finder
Fish finders like these from Bass Pro Shops are great for upgrading your fishing game. Easily attach a fish finder to the Universal Scotty Pads with the appropriate Scotty Universal Sounder Mount and Transducer Arm Mount.
Mushroom Anchor Kit
The Mushroom Anchor Kit includes an 8 lb. PVC-coated anchor and 25 ft. of rope that can be used with the Scotty Anchor Lock or tied to a carry handle.
Electric Pump
The BTP Two-Stage Electric Turbo Pump with Battery can make inflation even easier. There are two versions of the pump with or without the battery. The one you need will depend on where you’ll be pumping up your FishSkiff 16.
Sea Eagle EZ-Cart
If you are by yourself or have to go far to get to your put-in, a Sea Eagle EZ-Cart will be of great help especially if you have your boat loaded with gear.
Certifications
The Sea Eagle Explorer series of inflatable kayaks are certified by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). This certification confirms that Explorer kayaks have been manufactured to meet the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards for design, construction, and safety.
Sea Eagle Guarantee and Warranties
Sea Eagle 4-Month Trial Guarantee: Try a Sea Eagle Risk-Free for 120 days! “If you’re not totally happy with your boat, just return it in good condition for a full refund of your purchase price.”
Sea Eagle 3-Year Limited Warranty: 3-year limited warranty against any manufacturing defects.
Sea Eagle 3-Year Extended Hull Warranty: In addition to the limited 3-year warranty, Sea Eagle offers a 3-Year Extended Hull Warranty to give you 6 years of total warranty against any manufacturing defects.

Has anyone tried adding an electric motor to the Sea Eagle? Wondering how it handles the extra weight and if it’s still easy to maneuver. Cheers, Steve Hood for the detailed breakdown.
I’ve got the 350fx Fishing Explorer and it’s solid on water. The cargo space is a game changer, fits all my gear no problem. Can vouch for these kayaks.
How’s the setup time on that 350fx? Easy to get it water-ready?
Love the detail on the self-bailing drain valves. Making cleaning a breeze and minimizing impact on local waterways. Sustainability for the win!
Regarding the large, removable, rear, center skeg, does it improve the tracking significantly? I’ve paddled kayaks that just wouldn’t stay straight.
Got to say, Sea Eagle really backs their products. That guarantee and warranty section has me sold. Quality plus support, what more can ya ask for?
Not convinced about the need for all those rapid, self-bailing, easy-to-open & shut drain valves. Seems overkill unless you’re hitting serious rap9ids. What’s everyone else’s take?
I’m all about that modular, rigid floor. Thanks for highlighting, Steve Hood. Makes me feel like I’m in a hardshell without the storage headache.
does anyone actually use the trolling motor power center with these? or is it just a fancy add-on not really needed? curious before splurging.
trolling motor + power center = game changer for fishing. definitely not just for show, it gives you the edge on the water.
Can anyone tell me if these kayaks are good for beginners? Or are they too advanced?
